Second Week Finds

After +- 2,700 years this little figurine emerged into the sunshine on tel Akko once again. Experts have yet to confirm, but the initial thoughts are that she may be Phoenician or Persian. On the left you can see her as she was when she was found, and on the right you can see her after a good wash. She may have been a goddess or perhaps just an ordinary woman. We don’t know yet!

This week was bead week. We found a carved stone bead, a blue glass or lapis bead and two cornelian beads. As you can imagine, its not easy to see these amongst the dirt and the mounds of pottery on Potsherd Hill!

We also found some beautiful pottery and one of our experts thinks the floral patterned one is East Greek circa 7th century, and the brown bowl base was probably made some 300 years earlier.

We have a video of the vessel on the bottom at the right being excavated. We’re still not sure exactly what it is, but you can watch this spot!
